Respawn Entertainment Announces Launch Date and Details for Apex Legends: Breakout
Respawn Entertainment has announced that the upcoming 20th season of Apex Legends, titled Apex Legends: Breakout, will begin on Tuesday, January 13. One of the major features of this new season is the introduction of the Legend Upgrade system to the Battle Royale modes.
The Legend Upgrade system, as described on the Apex Legends website, will allow players to customize their playable character, or Legend, to match their playstyle by providing an in-match character progression system. This system will reset at the start of each match, allowing players to experiment with different upgrades to find their favorite.
Earning Evo will now Level-Up your Legend over the course of the game, improving your armor tier and unlocking unique upgrade selections at Levels Two and Three. This decision can impact your whole squad’s strategy, so choose wisely.
More details about each Legend’s upgrade tree will be revealed in the season’s upcoming patch notes, which are scheduled to be published on February 12.
In addition to the Legend Upgrade system, another significant change to Battle Royale is the removal of Body Shields from the ground and loot items. Instead, Legends will now have built-in ‘Legend Armor’ which permanently increases in capacity as they level up. Fallen enemies will now drop Shield Cores in their Death Boxes.
Other updates in the upcoming season include a new map called Thunderdome in the Mixtape playlist and the opportunity to unlock six Legends through Breakout Rewards. Completing challenges with these legends will also provide rewards such as the Reactive Top Tier Flatline and a set of Wraith cosmetics.
When the season launches, players can also look forward to 120Hz output on supported displays for current-gen consoles. More details are expected to be revealed in the patch notes next week.
