Old School RuneScape (OSRS) – What to Do With Fossils

With the introduction of Fossil Island in Old School RuneScape, players were given access to a whole new array of activities and items to discover. One of the key items that players can obtain on Fossil Island is Fossils, which can be acquired through various means such as skilling and PvM drops.

Although Fossils are untradable and come with minimal description, they serve multiple purposes that can benefit players in different ways. Fossils can be used to aid in passive skill training and contribute to the development of Fossil Island.

What to Do With Fossils in OSRS

Players can acquire Fossils on Fossil Island through activities like hunting Herbiboars or defeating Ancient Wyverns. The drop rates for Fossils vary depending on the activity.

Fossils hold significance beyond Fossil Island and can be utilized in various ways.

Completing The Varrock Museum Display Cases

One of the primary uses of Fossils is to complete the different displays in the Varrock Museum. Players must clean the Fossils using the tools at a Fossil Cleaning Station before completing a set.

After cleaning the Fossils, players can earn sets like Small, Medium, Large, or Plant. These completed sets can then be taken to the Varrock Museum for rewards like Kudos and Experience Lamps.

Earning Numulities from the Fossil Collector

Players can exchange Fossils with the Fossil Collector at the Base Camp on Fossil Island for Numulities. Numulities have various uses, including access to areas like the Drift Net Fishing area and Volcanic Mine.

Fossils do not need to be cleaned before turning them in and can be exchanged for Numulities in their unidentified form.

Earning Prayer Experience with the Mycelium Pool

For players looking to passively train their Prayer level, Fossils can be enriched and used at the Mycelium Pool in the Mushroom Meadows to earn Prayer experience. The process involves using Calcite and Pyrophosphite along with Fossils.

Once completed, players can collect Enriched Bones and convert them into Prayer experience at the House on the Hill using the Strange Machine.

Recharging the Ancient Wyvern Shield

The Ancient Wyvern Shield, akin to the Dragonfire Shield, can be recharged using Fossils obtained from Fossil Island. While Numulities can also be used, recharging with Fossils is a faster process.

If players have spare Fossils after other activities like completing Varrock Museum displays and Prayer training, recharging the Ancient Wyvern Shield can be a consistent option for enhancing its Defensive bonuses.
