Warhorse Studios has announced that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will introduce characters from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, a departure from the homogeneous character roster of the original game that sparked controversy. The developer, however, remains committed to historical accuracy and has enlisted the help of an in-house historian for consultation during the game’s development.
Players of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 can anticipate encountering a diverse set of characters
In an interview with IGN, Warhorse representative Tobias Stolz-Zwilling addressed the criticism surrounding the historical accuracy of the 2018 release. Stolz-Zwilling explained that the sequel will take protagonist Henry beyond the rural areas and local conflicts of the first game, placing him in a cosmopolitan city where he will interact with a broad spectrum of ethnicities and characters.
Warhorse has consistently defended the lack of diversity in the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance as a reflection of historical accuracy, a principle they intend to uphold in the upcoming installment.
Stolz-Zwilling elaborated, stating, “We are dedicated to portraying a realistic, immersive, and historically authentic medieval world through meticulous research. To achieve this, we not only rely on our in-house historian but also collaborate closely with universities, historians, museums, reenactors, and experts from various backgrounds who serve as external advisors in the development process.”
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is slated for release in 2024.
