PS Plus Extra subscribers who were excited to download the free current-gen update for Fallout 4 have been left disappointed as the upgraded version has not been applied to the subscription service. Instead, those who downloaded the game from the PS Plus game catalog are stuck with the previous-gen version.
According to GameSpot, players of Fallout 4 took to social media to warn others that the current-gen PS5 update has not been applied to the PS Plus Extra download. However, Bethesda Game Studios is aware of the issue and addressed it on Twitter.
“We’ve seen some confusion regarding the free Fallout 4 next-gen update for PlayStation Plus Extra members,” the official post reads. “The Fallout 4 next-gen update will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra members through the PlayStation Game Catalog. Your patience is appreciated while the teams work on this.”
As of now, Bethesda Game Studios has not provided a specific date or time for when the fix will be implemented, but it is expected that PS5 players will be able to enjoy the free update soon.
There may be potentially bad news for players who downloaded Fallout 4 via PS Plus Essentials or the now-defunct PS Plus Collection, as they might not receive the update at all. In response to a query in the replies, the official Bethesda Support account stated: “Fallout 4’s Next-Gen Update will be available for PS Plus Extra members. We do not have any information regarding PS5 Catalogue or PS Plus Essentials.”
On other platforms, the free update for Fallout 4 has faced challenges as well. While the update has been successful on Xbox Series X|S and PC, Xbox players report issues with modded saves being broken, and some mods available through the in-game menu are no longer working.
Additionally, the PC version seems to have compatibility issues with F4SE (Fallout 4 Script Extender), a mod essential for adding larger-scale creations to the game.
Despite these setbacks, interest in the game has been revitalized due to the success of the Fallout TV show on Prime Video. For more on the show, check out our interview with Todd Howard, where he explains the changes made to bring the game to a streaming audience.
