Xbox Titles Outperforming on PS Store, Hardware Revenue Declines
During Microsoft’s recent earnings call, CEO Satya Nadella acknowledged a notable trend – Xbox first-party titles taking the lead as best-sellers on the PlayStation Store. This comes as Xbox’s overall revenues see an increase, largely attributed to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. However, there has been a significant decline in Xbox hardware revenue for the quarter. This shift in focus towards multiplatform releases was driven by a slowdown in Game Pass growth and a sharp drop in Xbox console sales.
According to Nadella, “We’re expanding our games to new platforms, bringing four of our fan favorites to Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation for the first time.” The company’s strategic move seems to have paid off, as seven of their games made it to the top 25 list on the PlayStation Store, surpassing other publishers in popularity.
This information stems from a recent report by TweakTown, highlighting the success of Microsoft’s approach. Not only have popular Activision Blizzard games like Call of Duty contributed to this achievement, but former Xbox exclusives like Sea of Thieves and Grounded have also secured a spot in the top charts.
