XDefiant, Ubisoft’s upcoming free-to-play first-person shooter featuring factions from various Ubisoft franchises, now has an official release date. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Ubisoft Connect) on May 21. This marks the beginning of the XDefiant preseason, allowing players to experience the game before its first official season kicks off.
After undergoing several betas and tests, including a Server Test Session, XDefiant was initially delayed indefinitely, but now the developers have confirmed the May 21 release date. In a blog post, the XDefiant team expressed their excitement about the upcoming preseason, which will last for six weeks before transitioning into regular seasonal content.
Ubisoft has already outlined the roadmap for XDefiant’s first year, which includes four seasons packed with content. The game will feature various factions inspired by Ubisoft’s popular franchises. Some of the factions players can expect to encounter include Echelon from Splinter Cell, Phantoms from Ghost Recon Phantoms, Cleaners from The Division, Libertad from Far Cry 6, and Dedsec from Watch Dogs 2 (available after unlocking or purchasing).
The XDefiant preseason will offer a range of maps and modes for players to enjoy, all completely free of charge. From Arena and Attica Heights to Domination and Zone Control, there is a diverse selection of content awaiting players. Additionally, a new Ranked Mode Practice Playlist will be available during the preseason, allowing players to practice for the upcoming competitive ranked matches.
All rewards earned during previous Server Test Sessions and Insider Sessions will be accessible at the launch of the preseason, giving players a head start in their XDefiant journey. The preseason will last for six weeks, providing ample time for players to explore the game’s features and prepare for the official seasons to come.
