Assassin’s Creed Shadows Story and Setting
In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players will embark on the intertwined adventures of Naoe, a skilled shinobi Assassin from Iga Province, and Yasuke, the legendary African samurai. Against the backdrop of the tumultuous late Sengoku period, this duo will uncover their shared destiny as they shape a new era for Japan.
Exploring Japan will mark a first for the franchise, and given the intricately designed environments and locales we’ve seen, there are high expectations for feudal Japan. Ubisoft has declared that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will represent the “future of our open-world RPG games.” Hence, we anticipate extensive exploration and a highly interactive environment to set the stage for the next chapter.
While the narrative is yet to unfold, Japan’s inclusion as a highly awaited setting raises the likelihood of Shadows emerging as one of the top Assassin’s Creed games to date, depending on its execution. Marc-Alexis Cote mentioned that Shadows aims to have a “more dynamic world, a world that evolves around you, and we want everything that you have on yourself to evolve as you walk through this environment.” (Thanks, VGC.)
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Gameplay
The in-game action of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is yet to be revealed, so our understanding of the game’s content is primarily based on vague announcements and the brief reveal trailer we’ve seen.
However, with insights from the development team and Ubisoft, we are gradually piecing together information about the game’s content and how it plans to elevate itself from previous entries.
Shadows will introduce players to a “powerful shinobi fantasy” realm. While gameplay footage is awaited, this description suggests a significant focus on stealth missions and infiltration, possibly more pronounced than in previous Assassin’s Creed titles.
From the two trailers released, we observe that the first playable character maintains the tradition of wielding a hidden blade, hinting at the combat style to be expected. Additionally, the Shinobi is equipped with a short sword, likely the character’s distinctive weapon.
The second playable character, Yasuke, is a samurai seen employing two-handed weapons and a more direct combat approach in the second trailer. The method of switching between Naoe and Yasuke remains a mystery, but it’s probable that each character will offer a distinct skill tree and set of abilities to unlock.
