The Success of Ghost of Tsushima on Steam

Following its debut on PC, Ghost of Tsushima quickly soared to the top of Steam’s best-seller list. This achievement placed it ahead of popular titles like Counter-Strike 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur’s Gate 3, American Truck Simulator, and PUBG. In comparison, Helldivers 2 currently holds the 15th spot on the list, excluding the Steam Deck. While specific player numbers are not provided, SteamDB data shows a peak of 59,244 players at the time of this writing. Moreover, Steam users have expressed overall satisfaction with the PC port of Ghost of Tsushima, as evidenced by its “Very Positive” user review rating and an 85% recommendation rate.

However, the PC release of Ghost of Tsushima has also faced criticism from some players. Many negative reviews highlight the game’s dependency on PSN and its unavailability in certain regions as primary concerns. It should be noted that a PlayStation account is only necessary for accessing multiplayer features and the PlayStation overlay, not for the single-player campaign. This distinction may explain why the game has not garnered as much backlash as Helldivers 2.

Originally launched on PS4 in 2020, Ghost of Tsushima follows the story of samurai Jin Sakai as he embarks on a mission to liberate Tsushima island from Mongol invaders. The Directors Cut version includes the single-player Iki Island DLC and the Legends multiplayer DLC.
