2K Games Teases Next Iteration for Beloved Franchise
Video game publishing giant 2K Games is gearing up to reveal the “next iteration” in one of its “biggest and most beloved franchises” later this year. The reveal, which will take place at the Summer Game Fest showcase on June 7, was teased in a recent post to the official Summer Game Fest Twitter account. This event has become one of the most crucial occasions in the gaming industry, featuring digital live streams, in-person demos, and announcements about upcoming releases.
Fans have taken to social media to speculate about what the news could be. One user pleaded for “Borderlands 4”, while others predicted a new BioShock game or a Mafia sequel. Among these possibilities, it seems that Borderlands news is the most likely.
Borderlands 4 is currently in active development, coinciding with the upcoming Borderlands movie set to release in August. Despite potential setbacks from studio acquisitions by Embracer Group and Take-Two Interactive, the timing seems right to generate hype for the franchise.
On a personal note, a new entry in the Civilization series seems plausible to me. With the last release, Civilization 6, in 2016 and recent DLC updates, it may be time for a new installment. However, this is merely speculation, and the actual reveal from 2K Games on June 7 will unveil the truth.
