The Last of Us director says Naughty Dog’s next game ‘could redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming’

Naughty Dog’s Co-President Teases Studio’s Next Major Title

In a recent interview, Naughty Dog’s co-president Neil Druckmann hinted at the studio’s upcoming major title, suggesting that it has the potential to redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming.

During Sony’s corporate strategy meeting, Druckmann expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “I’m currently excited about a new one, which is perhaps the most thrilling yet.”

He went on to discuss the evolving appreciation for gaming across different age groups, mentioning the success of the television adaptation of The Last of Us as a key example. Druckmann hoped that projects like these would help bridge the gap between gamers and non-gamers, highlighting the immersive experiences gaming has to offer.

Druckmann emphasized his eagerness to see how this new game will be received, especially following the achievement of The Last of Us, as he believes it has the potential to reshape how gaming is perceived by the mainstream audience.

Although Naughty Dog has not officially announced its next title, speculations suggest that it could be the third installment of The Last of Us series or a completely new intellectual property.

Druckmann previously described the game as “really ambitious” with certain aspects being particularly challenging during its development.

Additionally, Naughty Dog has committed to a new goal of “eliminating crunch” in response to the intense production demands experienced during the creation of The Last of Us Part 2.
