Personally, I find this trend tiresome and unappealing.

While the game eventually offers more complex interactions, the initial reliance on a text-like chat feature on the magical phone can be frustrating, detracting from the overall gameplay experience.

An Elmwood Trail presents another example of a game set primarily within faux iPhones for game conversations, limiting player interactions to predetermined responses. While the game is well-written, this format can feel restrictive and lacking in depth compared to games that offer more choices and control.
Reigns
In contrast, Reigns cleverly incorporates smartphone UI elements into its gameplay, providing an enjoyable experience by offering binary decisions akin to popular dating apps. The game prompts players to consider their choices carefully, adding depth to the decision-making process.
Honkai: Star Rail
Honkai: Star Rail stands out with its in-game phone UI that surpasses real-life phones in terms of speed, design, and functionality. The game successfully integrates the use of the phone for communication and mission tracking without overshadowing the gameplay.
Conclusion
While phones in games are likely here to stay, I find more appeal in mobile games that reimagine the phone experience to be more engaging and entertaining than everyday smartphone use. Rather than replicating real-life phone interactions, games that offer a unique perspective or commentary on our phone usage make for a more captivating gaming experience.
