Read Only Memories: Neurodiver, Creator’s Diary

Happy Birthday, Neurodiver

As we prepare to submit our game for certification, the release date announcement trailer is complete and the final updates are being added to Read Only Memories: Neurodiver. Setting the Neurodiver’s birthday as May 16, 2024, we are ready to release it to the world.

The Day After

May 16 has passed, and the game is now available. After working on this project with a team over the past six years, there is a sense of relief and anxiety as the game is finally out. Despite being shorter than our previous game, the story is engaging and I still find enjoyment in playing it during my free time. I am proud of what our team has achieved and grateful for the collaboration with wonderful people.

Past and Present: Planning the Game

Read Only Memories: Neurodiver is a deeply personal project for me, given my role as the original director and lead artist/animator for 2064: Read Only Memories. While the development of the previous game had its challenges, the new game provided an opportunity to create an engaging, light, and brisk adventure. With an established protagonist diving into memories to chase a rogue psychic, the story allowed us to revisit old friends from the original game and explore their lives years later.

Dive into the Details

Luna Cruz de la Vega, also known as ES88, is a psychic agent at Minerva bonded to a genetically engineered esper called the Neurodiver. Her task involves viewing, interacting with, and repairing memories, including those haunted by a psychic entity named Golden Butterfly. As ES88 navigates this complex task, she grapples with self-confidence and determination, questioning the extent of her abilities.

Read Only Memories: Neurodiver encompasses elements of our passion and love for various creative inspirations. From vibrant FM tones inspired by old Yamaha sound cards to character voicing and Japanese adventure game influences, the game is a nostalgic journey filled with enthusiasm.

While the game may be brief, it aims to leave a lasting impression on players’ memories, offering a blend of old and new experiences. Dive into the world of Read Only Memories: Neurodiver and join ES88 on her “psy-fi” adventure!
