Octopath Traveler games rated in Taiwan for PlayStation and Xbox, suggesting releases imminent

Octopath Traveler Rated for PlayStation Consoles in Taiwan

The popular RPG game Octopath Traveler has been rated in Taiwan for both PlayStation 4 and PS5, signaling a potential release on Sony’s consoles. While the sequel is already available on various platforms, including Switch and PC, the first game has yet to be released on PlayStation.

According to Gematsu, the rating in Taiwan also included an Xbox Series X/S version of the sequel, expanding the game’s availability across multiple platforms. This move by Square Enix aims to ensure that both Octopath games are accessible to players on all gaming consoles.

Reports from Exputer suggest that Octopath Traveler 2 will also be added to Game Pass, aligning with Square Enix’s new strategy of diversifying its earnings through multiplatform releases. As part of this strategy, Square Enix aims to make their major franchises and AAA titles available to a wider audience.

During the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest event in Las Vegas last year, Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced the MMORPG’s arrival on Xbox, hinting at more Square Enix titles coming to Microsoft’s consoles. The release of the Octopath games on additional platforms is a part of this broader multiplatform strategy.

The Octopath Traveler games, known for featuring eight protagonists in traditional turn-based RPG gameplay, have gained popularity for their HD-2D graphic style. These games cater to fans of Final Fantasy who prefer classic turn-based combat over the action-oriented gameplay of modern titles.

Square Enix has also teased a remake of Dragon Quest 3 utilizing the same HD-2D style, showcasing the company’s commitment to reviving classic RPG experiences with a modern twist. The expansion of Octopath Traveler to more platforms is just the beginning of Square Enix’s efforts to reach a wider audience with their diverse portfolio of games.
