Iconic Perfect Dark Dev Says He “Would’ve Loved” To Work On The Reboot

Grant Kirkhope Won’t Be Composing Music for Perfect Dark Reboot

Joanna Dark won’t be jamming out to music from one of Perfect Dark’s original composers. That’s because Grant Kirkhope has revealed on social media that he isn’t involved with the upcoming reboot from developers The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics.

Desire to Work on New Perfect Dark

GamesRadar noticed that Kirkhope voiced his desire to work on the new Perfect Dark on X (formerly known as Twitter). The composer–who’s known for creating the DK Rap as well as GoldenEye 007’s pause music–wrote a post that said: “I would’ve loved to have scored the new Perfect Dark, alas it wasn’t to be.”

Not Selected for Perfect Dark Reboot

Additionally, in a follow-up post on X, Kirkhope revealed that he “demoed for [the Perfect Dark reboot], but they chose someone else.” Most recently, the composer has worked on Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and the Yooka-Laylee franchise. Last year, Kirkhope admitted he’s not convinced people want another Banjo-Kazooie game, a franchise he previously worked on as well.

Perfect Dark Gameplay Trailer

Meanwhile, Perfect Dark got its first gameplay trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase over the weekend. Initially revealed in 2020, the video was arguably a surprise at the event after a report surfaced last month that the reboot was in bad shape. The single-player game is aiming to provide a “true secret agent fantasy,” per Microsoft.
