Atari and Digital Eclipse have revealed a new expansion for the Atari 50: the Anniversary Collection.
This new expansion, titled Atari 50: the Anniversary Celebration Expanded Edition, will introduce two timelines and include 39 additional games to the already existing Atari retrospective.
The Expanded Edition is scheduled for release on October 25 for various platforms such as PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5. Additionally, it will be available for the Atari VCS during the holiday season.
Both the Nintendo Switch and PS5 versions will offer physical editions. The Nintendo Switch version will come with a steelbook that includes Atari 2600 art cards, miniature arcade marquee signs, and an Al Alcorn Replica Syzygy Co. business card.
The standard edition of the game will be priced at $39.99 / £31.50, while the steelbook edition will retail for $49.99 / £39.40.
Owners of the original Atari 50 release will have the option to download the two new timelines and games as DLC at a later date.
The ‘The Wider World of Atari’ timeline in the Expanded Edition will include 19 playable games and eight video segments. It will provide a detailed look into the history of Atari, showcasing the lasting impact the company had on creators and fans over the years.
Additionally, the expansion will feature new interviews, vintage ads, historical artifacts, and more, all presented in Digital Eclipse’s unique style. Highlights will include in-depth discussions on games like Berzerk and Pong, as well as insights from industry veterans.
The ‘The First Console War’ timeline will focus on the rivalry between the Atari 2600 and Mattel’s Intellivision. This timeline will feature 20 playable games and six video segments, along with interviews with key industry figures.
The original Atari 50: the Anniversary Collection was initially released in 2022 by Digital Eclipse, offering a comprehensive look at Atari’s history through playable games, galleries, arcade flyers, and documentaries. With the addition of 39 new games in the Expanded Edition, the total number of games will reach 154.
