Summer Games Done Quick 2024 raises £1.9m, taking its lifetime charitable total to £40m

The Success of Summer Games Done Quick 2024

Another successful year of Summer Games Done Quick has come to an end, with the event raising an impressive £1.9m ($2.5m) for the charity Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières. This brings the total amount raised by the speedrunning organizer to a remarkable £40m/$51m across all its events, benefiting charities such as AbleGamers, Organisation for Autism Research, Malala Fund, National Women’s Law Center, and Prevent Cancer Foundation.

The event, which ran 24-hours a day from June 30th to July 6th in Minnesota and was broadcast globally on Games Done Quick’s Twitch channel, was filled with memorable moments. Highlights included Peanut Butter the dog playing Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball, with the crowd cheering at every successful pitch and bat. Other standout moments included a coordinated dance performance during Alan Wake 2 and a musical interlude in the game Sunset Riders.

Both physical and virtual crowds came together to watch speedruns of various games such as Elden Ring, Minecraft Dungeons, Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain, Halo 3, Old School Runescape, Evil Zone, and many others. The event showcased the skill and dedication of the speedrunning community.

Looking ahead, Games Done Quick will host its all-women and femmes speedrunning showcase, “Flame Fatales,” from August 18th to 25th, 2024. This event promises to continue the tradition of exceptional gameplay and fundraising for important causes.
