Review of Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition on Nintendo Switch
Ubisoft has recently released Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition on the Nintendo Switch, and overall, it has been well-received. The game features enhanced visuals from the original version and includes some additional bonus content. In our review, we rated the game an 8/10 and recommend giving it a try.
However, as with many multiplatform games, the Switch version does show some differences compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. One noticeable change is in the textures, where characters, objects, and environments appear less detailed on the Switch. Despite this, the use of lighting remains consistent across all platforms.
Reflections in the game have also been affected on the Switch. For example, when sailing over the water in Hillys, reflections on the Switch run at a lower resolution compared to the PS5. Additionally, the absence of gaussian blur highlights jagged edges more prominently. While these differences may not be immediately apparent unless directly compared, they are worth mentioning.
Another point to note is that the game runs at 30fps on the Switch. While this is slightly disappointing, the performance is generally stable. However, there are instances where the frame rate may drop to 20fps or even 12fps, particularly in specific scenarios.
Despite these differences, we believe that the overall experience of the game on the Switch is still enjoyable. Whether you’re a fan of the original game or curious about the anniversary edition, Beyond Good & Evil is worth exploring on the Nintendo Switch.
