Ubisoft’s live-action Driver series may be dead, but the series itself isn’t

While this is disappointing news for fans, a Ubisoft spokesperson confirmed, “We are no longer moving forward with our partnership with Binge for a Driver series.”

However, there is some hope for the future of the Driver series. Ubisoft has reassured fans that they are “actively working on other exciting projects related to the franchise”. This news suggests that while the live-action series may be off the table, there are still plans in motion to explore other avenues within the beloved franchise.

Initially announced in 2021, the Driver series was set to be transformed into a live-action TV show with an expected launch in 2022. Unfortunately, with the closure of Binge, these plans have now been scrapped.

For fans of the Driver franchise, the last main game release was Driver: San Francisco in 2011. The game, available on PC, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360, allowed players to “Shift” between cars as protagonist John Tanner navigated a series of high-speed chases while in a coma.

Despite the setback with the live-action series, Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs movie, which has faced its own challenges in development, has recently entered the production phase, offering some consolation for fans of Ubisoft’s video game adaptations.
