Compatibility Clarifications for Fallout: London Mod
As the highly anticipated release of the Fallout: London mod for Fallout 4 approaches, GOG has provided some clarity on compatibility questions. The mod will be compatible with versions of Fallout 4 purchased on GOG and Steam, but not with those bought on the Epic Games Store due to a missing key feature necessary for running the mod.
Challenges Faced by Fallout: London Mod
For those unfamiliar with Fallout: London, the mod allows players to explore a post-apocalyptic version of London within the Fallout 4 universe. However, the development team, Team Folon, encountered obstacles in making the mod compatible with Fallout 4’s recent next-gen update.
Anticipating potential issues, Team Folon decided to delay the release of Fallout: London back in April. Their concerns proved valid, as testing revealed that Fallout 4’s next-gen update was unstable and unable to support the mod. As a solution, the mod will include a downgrader to revert Fallout 4 to an older version for compatibility.
While it was confirmed that the downgrader would work with the GOG version of Fallout 4, questions remained about compatibility with versions from other platforms. GOG has now addressed these concerns and provided clarity on which versions will support Fallout: London.
Compatibility Details
According to a statement from a GOG spokesperson to VG247, Fallout: London will be compatible with the GOG version of Fallout 4 and can also work with the Steam release through a manual downgrade or a downgrading tool currently in progress. However, copies of Fallout 4 distributed via the Epic Games Store will not be compatible, as the store lacks the ability to rollback to earlier versions of games.
Despite this setback, there is hope for Epic Games Store users to eventually access Fallout: London. Team Folon has confirmed plans to update the mod to support Fallout 4’s next-gen patch once it is more stable.
Release Date and Updates
The release date for Steam and GOG players to enjoy Fallout: London is still to be confirmed. Team Folon has mentioned that the end is near but the mod must first pass GOG’s quality checks. Once the verification process is complete, the mod will be ready for players to experience.
