How Dune: Awakening is Rewriting Decades of Dune

Exciting Changes in Dune: Awakening

Significant changes have been made to the world of Dune: Awakening, setting the stage for a thrilling gaming experience. In this new version of Arrakis, a full-blown war is raging, with the Fremen missing and the Atreides battling against the Harkonnen for control of the planet’s resources. This dynamic landscape is filled with wreckage, abandoned structures, and hidden weapons waiting to be discovered.

Funcom, known for their expertise in creating expansive worlds, is developing an exciting survival MMO game within this rich setting. During a recent hands-off preview at Summer Game Fest: Play Days, players got a glimpse of the immersive world of Arrakis. Despite being in development, the game already shows promise of offering a captivating adventure through the dangerous planet.

An intriguing feature called Shifting Sands will alter the landscape of the Deep Desert every week, leading players to discover new areas and explore hidden secrets. Combined Arms, a gameplay mechanic combining ranged and melee abilities, will provide players with diverse options for both PVP and PVE encounters in Dune: Awakening. Additionally, players will have the opportunity to pilot various vehicles, including the iconic Ornithopters inspired by recent films and Microsoft Flight Simulator.
