Cyberpunk 2077’s Quest Director Reveals Former Modders Working on Sequel
The quest director for Cyberpunk 2077, Paweł Sasko, recently shared in an interview with Flow Games that the upcoming sequel is being developed by a team of former modders. Sasko, who is now the associate game director for the project, mentioned that Project Orion consists of a large team with roots in modding.
“Half of the quest team working on the next Cyberpunk game, which currently consists of 24 people, are former modders,” Sasko revealed. “They have backgrounds in modding for Witcher, Cyberpunk, and other games. Błażej Augustynek, now a quest director, was a modder for StarCraft 1 and 2.”
Sasko also highlighted the presence of modders in various departments, such as a small team called Jigsoft, comprised solely of modders who collaborate with the development team.
Offering advice to aspiring game developers, Sasko emphasized the value of modding experience. “I always advise young people to start by learning how to mod,” he stated. “Some of the best talents we have in the industry are former modders.”
While Cyberpunk 2 is still in the works, it is being crafted by the same developers who worked on the Phantom Liberty expansion.
CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the Cyberpunk series, also confirmed earlier that over 400 developers are currently dedicated to Project Polaris (or The Witcher 4), with the remaining team members involved in projects like Orion (the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel), Sirius, and Hadar, as well as shared services and other undisclosed endeavors.
In a recent development, the studio released the official mod editor for The Witcher 3, nearly a decade after the game’s initial launch. This tool allows players to create their own experiences within the game by crafting new content or editing existing quests and elements.
