Review – Echo Generation – (Nintendo Switch)

Exploring Echo Generation Midnight Edition: A Turn-Based RPG Adventure

Echo Generation Midnight Edition, developed by Cococucumber, brings a nostalgic turn-based RPG experience to the Nintendo Switch. Supported by the Canada Media Fund and Ontario Creates, this Midnight Edition features upgraded graphics, fast travel, and quality of life improvements that enhance gameplay.

In Echo Generation Midnight Edition, players are immersed in a small town atmosphere of the 1990s, evoking feelings of nostalgia right from the start. The game’s art style is a perfect blend of vintage aesthetics with modern crispness, setting the tone for an engaging gameplay experience. Players begin by selecting and naming their player character, adding a personal touch to the adventure.

As you embark on your journey, you’ll encounter various characters, from a psychotic headteacher to hipster bubble tea store owners, each adding depth to the storytelling. The game’s writing captures the essence of a Saturday morning adventure, reminiscent of classic coming-of-age stories like Stand By Me or Stranger Things.

Throughout the game, players will explore a variety of locations, engaging in turn-based battles that offer a mix of basic attacks and special moves. Collecting comic books unlocks unique special moves for characters, adding a layer of strategy to combat. However, one downside of the game is the lack of a significant difficulty curve, making battles relatively easy and potentially reducing the sense of accomplishment for some players.
