What’s Causing Cars to Soar in Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.49?
Developer Polyphony Digital recently rolled out Update 1.49 for Gran Turismo 7 with the aim of enhancing the game’s physics engine for a more realistic experience. However, players quickly discovered an unexpected issue – cars were being launched into the air in a rather comical fashion.
Engadget highlighted how social media platforms were flooded with posts showcasing the bizarre physics glitch triggered by the latest update. One Japanese Twitter user, @AIPhard_T0yota, humorously dubbed it as the “Real Driving Rocket Simulator” along with a video clip capturing the glitch in action.
These videos depict chaos unfolding on the racetrack as cars suddenly take flight, with some vehicles bouncing up and down while others ascend into the skybox. Numerous users on Twitter and Reddit shared similar clips, with the Volkswagen bus being a popular choice for starring in these unintended airborne sequences.
The glitch primarily affects AI-controlled, high-horsepower cars that are accelerating from low speeds. This makes it a common sight in the game’s dynamic Scapes Movies, where AI cars navigate through various landscapes. However, the bug is not limited to this mode and can even manifest in the garage.
Polyphony Digital swiftly acknowledged the bug following the release of the Gran Turismo 7 update. In a statement on Twitter, the company mentioned, “We are now aware of the following issue in the 1.49 Update released on July 25: Car Physics Simulation – Unintended vehicle behavior is produced when a particular car setting is set within Car Settings. This issue is currently under investigation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing.”
