Captain America: Brave New World Brings Adamantium, Finally References Eternals

Adamantium Makes Its Debut in the MCU Through The Eternals

Adamantium, the legendary fictional metal, is set to make its appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to the upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World. Marvel fans will surely recognize the significance of this news, as Vibranium has been a prominent element in the MCU due to Captain America’s shield, but Adamantium has been held back due to rights issues.

During Marvel Studios’ presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, details about Captain America: Brave New World were revealed, including the exciting confirmation of Adamantium’s inclusion in the MCU.

In Marvel comic books, Adamantium is considered one of the most powerful metals in the sci-fi genre. It is known for being the material of Captain America’s shield and Ultron’s body, but most notably, it covers the skeleton of the iconic mutant character, Wolverine.

The introduction of Adamantium in the MCU is unique as it originates from the solidified form of a Celestial that emerges from the Earth in The Eternals film released in 2021. This connection to The Eternals expands the Marvel universe and offers a new twist on the source of the powerful metal.

Previously, the rights to the X-Men and mutants, including Wolverine, were held by 20th Century Fox. However, with Disney’s acquisition, these characters have returned to Marvel Studios, allowing for the introduction of Wolverine in the recent Deadpool & Wolverine film.

While Deadpool & Wolverine serves as a transition between the Fox and Marvel Studios films, the inclusion of Adamantium in Captain America: Brave New World marks its official introduction into the core MCU timeline. Fans can anticipate the day when Wolverine is recast and brings his iconic claws to life in the MCU.

Captain America: Brave New World features Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America and introduces Giancarlo Esposito as the leader of the Serpent Society and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on February 14, 2025, offering fans a unique cinematic experience.
