Bungie & Sony Forming New PlayStation Studio for Sci-Fi Action Game

Details on the New PlayStation Studio

During Wednesday’s announcement of the layoffs at Bungie, the company revealed plans to establish a new studio within PlayStation Studios dedicated to creating a sci-fi action game.

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons shared insights on the restructuring in a blog post, mentioning the integration of 155 roles into Sony Interactive Entertainment. Additionally, he disclosed the collaboration with PlayStation Studios to spin off an “incubation project” into a new studio.

Parsons stated, “Second, we are working with PlayStation Studios leadership to spin out one of our incubation projects – an action game set in a brand-new science-fantasy universe – to form a new studio within PlayStation Studios to continue its promising development.”

In his commentary on the layoffs, Parsons emphasized financial considerations as a driving factor for the elimination of 220 positions. The decision involved various factors, such as the integration of employees into Sony Interactive Entertainment.

At present, details about the new studio and the project’s development remain scarce. In addition to their work on Destiny, Bungie is also focused on Marathon, a PVP extraction shooter that was initially announced last year.
