Making a Fence in Minecraft
One of the most essential elements in protecting your base in Minecraft is a sturdy fence. Unlike many other blocks, fences are effective at keeping mobs out and ensuring your safety. To learn how to craft a fence and optimize its use, follow the guide below.
Crafting a Fence
Crafting a fence in Minecraft is a straightforward process once you have the recipe. You only need two basic resources to create a fence. Follow the crafting recipe below:
- Place two Sticks in the middle and bottom middle boxes of a crafting table
- Next, add four wood Planks of the same type in the four boxes surrounding the Sticks
Sticks and Planks are easily obtainable resources in Minecraft. Simply chop down some logs to gather Planks, then use those Planks to create Sticks. With these resources at hand, you can craft a fence.
It’s important to note that you must use Planks of the same wood type when crafting a fence. Mixing different wood types will not produce a fence. Each type of wood results in a different colored fence, but functionally, they are all the same.
Using Your Fence
Once you have crafted your fences, place one on a block and start connecting more fences to it. Fences will automatically connect as long as they are placed on adjacent blocks. Consider leaving space for a fence gate, which can be crafted using four Sticks and two wood Planks of the same type. The recipe is similar to a fence, but with the positions of Sticks and Planks reversed. A fence gate allows you to pass through the fence, akin to a door in a wall of your base.
