Roblox Responds to Türkiye Ban
Roblox has issued a statement in response to the recent ban imposed by the government of Türkiye, which has blocked access to the platform in an effort to protect children.
The announcement of the ban was made by Türkiye’s Minister of Justice, Yılmaz Tunç, in a detailed post on the social media platform X.
While the specific reason for the ban was not disclosed, Tunç mentioned that it was implemented “due to the content that could lead to the exploitation of children” and emphasized the country’s commitment to safeguarding children.
According to Türkiye Today, the ban was primarily prompted by reports of inappropriate content on Roblox that could potentially harm children.
“We’ve spent almost 20 years making Roblox one of the safest online platforms for our users, particularly the youngest, and ensuring the safety of our users is at the core of everything we do,” stated a spokesperson for Roblox in a response to Eurogamer.
Roblox expressed its respect for the laws and regulations of the countries where it operates and reiterated its commitment to child safety. The company looks forward to collaborating with local authorities to restore access to Roblox in Türkiye promptly.
The ban on Roblox comes shortly after Instagram faced a similar restriction in Türkiye. This move has sparked discussions about government control over online content in the country.
In a report from 2021, People Make Games accused Roblox of exploiting children who work as young game developers on the platform.
Earlier this year, Stefano Corazza, head of Roblox Studio, addressed concerns about the platform’s reputation for taking advantage of young developers in an interview with Eurogamer. Roblox clarified that it does not employ minors.
