Official Mod Support Arrives for Doom Eternal on PC
After the recent release of the “enhanced” Doom 1 & 2, id Software continues to delight fans with the announcement of official mod support for Doom Eternal on PC during QuakeCon celebrations. This exciting news comes in the form of a new mod browser and the availability of idStudio mod creation tools on Steam.
Players can access mods by installing the new Update 6.66 Rev 3 beta for Doom Eternal. The PC Mod Preview allows players to browse, download, and play mods, but currently, this feature is exclusive to Steam (with plans to expand to the Microsoft Store on PC in the near future). To opt-in for mod support, players must follow a few simple steps.
How to Opt-in for Mod Support on Steam:
- Right-click on Doom Eternal in your Steam library and select “Properties”.
- Navigate to the “Betas” tab and choose “pc-mod-preview” from the drop-down menu.
- Confirm your selection and wait for the update to install.
For those using the Microsoft Store, accessing the PC Mod Preview requires an additional step. Players will need to install the Xbox Insider Hub, navigate to Previews > DOOM Eternal – PC Mod Preview, and select Join. After registration, return to the store to install Doom Eternal (BATTLEMODE – PC) and mods can then be accessed through the Mods page on the Doom Eternal launcher.
In addition to the PC Mod Preview, id Software has also released idStudio tools for mod creators. Available exclusively on Steam, the idStudio Beta empowers community members to develop and share original mods for both Steam and Microsoft Store players who opt-in to the Doom Eternal: PC Mod Preview. A detailed manual for idStudio is now accessible online.
The introduction of official mod support coincides with the ongoing QuakeCon event by idSoftware, which is scheduled to conclude this Sunday, 8th August. As part of the celebration, a QuakeCon sale is active on Steam, offering discounts on Bethesda and id Software titles until 21st August.
