Steam Store Is Making A Change For What Listings Can Say

Valve’s New Rules for Steam Store Descriptions

Valve will be implementing new guidelines for developers and publishers regarding the content they can include in their store descriptions on Steam. These changes are set to take effect in early September and will affect four key sections on Steam store pages: “About The Game,” “Short Description,” “Any Special Announcement,” and “Awards.”

One of the major changes is that no external links to other websites will be permitted in these sections, including links to social media pages. Valve has specified that there are separate fields for adding links to common social media platforms or websites, so including them in the store descriptions is no longer allowed.

In addition, developers will no longer be allowed to use embedded imagery that resembles Steam store UI elements or buttons. This includes images that mimic wishlist buttons, game capsules, or prices. Furthermore, any images, links, or widgets that direct users to other games on Steam will not be permitted. Essentially, developers are now restricted from using store descriptions to promote or advertise other products on the platform.

Steam has been rolling out various updates recently to enhance user experience, such as improving game search functionality and making game demos more accessible to players.
