Atari Announces Release of Atari 7800+ Console
Atari is once again catering to retro gaming enthusiasts by releasing a cartridge-based replica of one of its classic home consoles. Following the success of the Atari 2600+ released last holiday season, Atari is now unveiling the Atari 7800+ just in time for this holiday season.
Priced at $130, the Atari 7800+ comes with a wireless CX78+ gamepad and a copy of the modern 7800 platformer Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest to kickstart your gaming collection.
Modern Features of the Atari 7800+
Atari has designed the 7800+ to be a modernized and compact version of the iconic retro console. It connects to your TV via HDMI, allowing you to play both Atari 7800 and 2600 cartridges. The console is also compatible with original and third-party Atari cartridges. Additionally, the included controller charges via USB-C, adding convenience to your gaming experience.
In addition to the console, Atari is also releasing two new controllers. The CX78+ controller, included with the Atari 7800+, is a recreation of the popular two-button controller from the original platform. The CX40+ joystick controller, initially released alongside the 2600+, is also back in stock after being sold out for some time.
Both controllers are compatible with the Atari 7800+ and 2600+ consoles, as well as PCs when using a USB-C adapter. If you happen to own the original Atari 7800 or 2600, these controllers will work seamlessly with those as well.
Preorder Options and Game Cartridges
For those looking to maximize their gaming setup, Atari is offering the Atari 7800+ Mega Bundle for $170, which includes the Atari 7800+ console, its controller, the CX40+ joystick, and the CX30+ Paddle Pack (two paddles). This bundle provides a $30 discount off the total list price of $200, giving customers the opportunity to save while expanding their collection.
Moreover, Atari has made available a variety of 7800 and 2600 game cartridges for preorder. Some of the titles include Asteroids Deluxe 7800, Berzerk 7800, and Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest 7800, among others.
Compatibility with Atari 2600+
For those who already own the Atari 2600+, rest assured that the 2600+ is capable of playing 7800+ games as well. The Atari 2600+ is currently available on Amazon for $130, providing an alternative for retro gaming enthusiasts.
