It looks like Gearbox studio head Randy Pitchford wasn’t just playing around when he hinted at the possibility of Borderlands 4. During Gamescom Opening Night Live, it was officially announced that the fourth installment in the popular series will be arriving “next year” on next-generation platforms.
While a Nintendo release hasn’t been confirmed, there’s optimism about the possibility, especially with the announcement of a Switch “successor” expected to happen sometime “this fiscal year.” Additionally, the original Borderlands trilogy and some spin-offs have already made their way to the Switch.
The teaser trailer for Borderlands 4 doesn’t give away much, but the description suggests that players will once again step into the shoes of a Vault Hunter on a quest for “secret alien treasure” on a brand new planet, all while engaging in intense combat.
This announcement comes hot on the heels of the release of Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition on the Nintendo Switch last October.
