Star Wars Outlaws creative director is “a little disappointed” with review scores but glad “players are really connecting with what we did”

Disappointment with Review Scores

Star Wars Outlaws‘ creative director Julian Gerighty has expressed his disappointment with the game’s review scores. Despite its mixed reception, the Ubisoft open-world Star Wars game currently holds a Metacritic score of 76, following its launch last week on PC and console.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Gerighty acknowledged that while he was “a little disappointed” with the review scores, he is pleased that players are still engaging with the game. He stressed the importance of recognition from press and critics, but ultimately values the player’s connection to the game.

Gerighty shared that the team at Massive Entertainment feels a sense of pride, happiness, and accomplishment for reaching for the stars during the four-year development of Star Wars Outlaws. He affirmed that the game is designed to be enduring, with plans for continuous improvement in the future.

“This will be a game that millions of people are going to play for years and years, and we’re never going to stop improving it,” Gerighty mentioned. He emphasized the studio’s commitment to ongoing enhancements while acknowledging that there may come a time to halt the improvements.

Future Plans for Star Wars Outlaws

While Massive Entertainment has not yet outlined specific quality-of-life improvements, players can anticipate more post-launch content later this year. The Season Pass roadmap reveals that the game will receive two story packs, available for separate purchase for those who didn’t opt for the Gold or Ultimate Edition.

Story Pack One, titled Wild Card, is scheduled for release in Fall 2024. It will follow Kay Vess as she infiltrates a high-stakes Sabacc tournament alongside Lando Calrissian. The second story pack, A Pirate’s Fortune, is set to launch in Spring 2025 and will feature the return of the beloved pirate Hondo Ohnaka.
