How Jackbox Games Took a Beloved Party Game and Made a New Remote Play Version

Revolutionizing Social Deception Gaming with Remote Play

Back in The Jackbox Party Pack 3, Jackbox Games introduced the hilariously engaging social deception game Fakin’ It. Friends and family found themselves accusing each other of lies, pointing fingers, and creating uproarious moments. Now, in the latest release of the Jackbox Naughty Pack, this fan-favorite is making a comeback. The question on everyone’s mind: Can this explosively funny game work remotely? Spoiler alert: Absolutely!

Greetings, I’m Tim Sniffen, the director of Fakin’ It All Night Long. When we set out to create this new version, one of our top priorities (and a frequent request from Jackbox enthusiasts) was to ensure the game could seamlessly transition to a fully remote environment.

Given that the essence of the game revolves around observing fellow players to identify the faker, we focused on enhancing player avatars (designed by lead artist Owen Watson) to be more prominent in the game. This allows them to perform actions like raising hands and pointing, all through controller inputs that are mirrored on the game screen.

We meticulously crafted the timing and sequence of events in the Remote Play version to ensure that information on the screen is presented clearly and logically. Both Same Room and Remote Play modes feature the same round categories, including the new Emojional Damage category (because who can resist deception through emojis?). This ensures that the gameplay remains consistent, even with adjusted interactions.

Having your camera on is not mandatory, but admit it – the satisfaction of catching someone in a lie is even sweeter when you can see their reaction on screen.

So, even if you prefer to stay in, you can still join in the fun of Fakin’ It! And for the die-hard fans of the original Fakin’ It, fear not – the classic “in the same room” gameplay style is retained in the Jackbox Naughty Pack. Because sometimes, you just need to honk the nose of the accuser for a third time!
