Seagate Releases New Game Drive External SSD for PlayStation Owners
Storage company Seagate has unveiled a new, officially licensed product specifically designed for PlayStation users.
The Seagate Game Drive External SSD for PS5 and PS4 is now available for purchase. According to a Seagate press release, the drive is offered in 1TB and 2TB capacities. The 1TB model is priced at £139.99 (approximately $189.99), while the 2TB option is available for £229.99 (about $304.99).
This external SSD is designed to be highly compatible with consoles, featuring support for USB Type-C 3.2 for fast transfer speeds and compatibility with both USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C connections. This makes it an efficient solution for storing games, screenshots, and recorded footage.
Similar to other top SSDs for PS5, the Seagate Game Drive External SSD allows users to easily transfer games to and from the console’s internal storage. This eliminates the need to delete games to make space, avoiding the hassle of having to re-download them later.
In terms of design, the Seagate Game Drive External SSD sports a matte white color scheme that matches the official aesthetics of the PS5 console. Additionally, it features a subtle blue LED strip that complements the lighting of the console and the DualSense Wireless Controller.
Having extra storage for your PS5 and PS4 is always a welcomed enhancement. With base consoles and the PS5 Slim offering only 1TB of storage, space can fill up quickly, especially for users with larger game libraries such as titles like Horizon Forbidden West or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Having an additional 1TB or 2TB at your disposal can save you significant time in the long run.
It’s important to note that external SSDs for the PS5 offer faster speeds compared to traditional external hard drives. However, unlike internal storage options, external SSDs cannot run PS5 games directly. They can only be used for storage. Nevertheless, users can still store and play digital PS4 games, making the Seagate Game Drive External SSD an excellent choice for owners of the previous generation console.
