Blasphemous 2, the highly acclaimed sequel to developer The Game Kitchen’s Souls-like action-platformer, is set to expand its universe on 31st October with the release of the Mea Culpa expansion and a free update for all platforms.
The Mea Culpa expansion focuses on the story of the lost sword wielded by The Penitent One in the original Blasphemous game. Players can expect two new zones with challenging environments, two new bosses, four new quests to uncover the pieces of their sword, new NPCs, prayers, rosary beads, and an alternate ending. Additionally, the expansion introduces a new weapon and ability, along with new achievements to unlock.
Launching on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC platforms (via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store), the Mea Culpa expansion will be available for £11.99/€11.99/$11.99 USD. Early adopters can enjoy a 20 percent discount if they purchase it within the first two weeks of release.
Accompanying the paid expansion is a major free content update for all players, known as True Torment. This update includes expanded versions of existing zones, such as the Choir of Thorns, Sunken Cathedral, and Basilica of Ancient Faces, with new challenges. Players can also look forward to new connecting zones for easier traversal, a new Labyrinth of Tides challenge, new enemies, a New Game+ mode with adjustable difficulty options, upgrades for the Penitent One, quality of life improvements, and new achievements. All of this will be available for free on 31st October alongside the Mea Culpa expansion.
