Former Far Cry Frontman Now Leading New StarCraft Shooter
Dan Hay, known for his work on Ubisoft’s Far Cry series, has transitioned to leading a team on a new StarCraft shooter project. This exciting development was revealed by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier in his upcoming book on Blizzard, Play Nice, and further discussed during an IGN podcast.
Having joined Blizzard in 2022, Hay is now at the helm of the company’s third attempt at a StarCraft shooter game. This comes after the previous cancellations of StarCraft Ghost and a project codenamed Ares. The new endeavor signifies Blizzard’s persistent exploration of this game concept.
While specific details about the project remain scarce, it is evident that Hay’s focus has shifted following the cancellation of Blizzard’s ambitious survival game Odyssey, a project he was previously overseeing. Odyssey, intended to be Blizzard’s first new intellectual property since Overwatch, was likened to games like Rust and Minecraft before its cancellation earlier this year.
Notably, the StarCraft spin-off Ghost was also axed in 2006, with Blizzard attributing this decision to the overwhelming success of World of Warcraft at the time. In current news, Microsoft has confirmed the arrival of StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection on Xbox and PC Game Pass.
