Nintendo Museum in Kyoto to Settle Age-Old Debate
The highly anticipated Nintendo Museum is set to open in Kyoto, Japan, showcasing a treasure trove of Nintendo artifacts and memorabilia. However, beyond its impressive collection, the museum has inadvertently resolved a long-standing internet debate surrounding the classification of Yoshi’s Island.
During a special press preview of the museum, Dan Ryckert observed that Yoshi’s Island is not included in the Mario franchise display, but instead has its own dedicated space in the Yoshi franchise exhibit. This clear segregation suggests that, according to Nintendo’s own categorization, Yoshi’s Island is considered a Yoshi game rather than a Mario game.
While this revelation may come as a surprise to some, it aligns with Nintendo’s meticulous curation of its history within the museum. Despite this categorization, there is still a possibility that Nintendo may reconsider and include Yoshi’s Island in both franchises in the future.
Yoshi’s Island follows the adventures of Yoshi as he carries a baby Mario through vibrant islands. Available as part of the Super NES library on the Nintendo Switch Online service, players can experience the game firsthand to decide for themselves which franchise it truly belongs to.
