Email Interview with Matsumoto-sama on Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection
We had the opportunity to conduct an email interview with Matsumoto-sama to delve into the production details, concepts, and future direction of Capcom. Here are the insights we gathered:
Nintendo Life: Good afternoon Matsumoto-sama, thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us today.
Defining the Dream Team
Shuhei Matsumoto (Producer, MVC: Fighting Collection): Venom, Dr. Doom and whoever I’m in the mood for that day.
Entering the Gaming Realm
I was a salesman at a company that sold nuts and bolts. I joined Capcom as a mid-career hire because I wanted to work on Street Fighter and with game makers!
Curating the Ultimate Collection
We believe that all the titles in the Capcom Fighting Collection, past and future, are top-notch. Our process involves selecting titles based on their potential for porting to current consoles, grouping similar titles together, and actively listening to fan feedback.
Fan Favorites and Future Additions
Although I pondered on it for a while, I couldn’t think of any character from the Marvel or Capcom universes that hasn’t been included yet.
Addressing Concerns
Despite the violence, we strived to maintain the authenticity of The Punisher in Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection without hesitation.
Looking Ahead: Marvel vs. Capcom 4
We constantly explore the possibility of the next installment in the “VS.” series; however, its realization would rely on various factors and timing beyond Capcom’s control.
The Artistry of the Past and Future
While the trend is shifting towards 3D, there may still be hope for a pixel-drawn fighting game from Capcom, possibly as an indie title.
Bringing Back Norimaro
We were adamant about including Norimaro in the overseas release of Marvel vs Street Fighter in this collection due to our strong desire to see him represented.
A Glimpse into Capcom’s Office
During a recent visit by our president, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, to check out MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, his nostalgic joy and big smile left a lasting impact on us.
Parting Words
Thank you, Matsumoto-sama, for sharing your insights with us. We eagerly anticipate your future projects, especially Marvel vs. Capcom 4!
[Editor’s note: Questions about Street Fighter 6 and Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite were left unanswered in this interview.]
Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Collection Arcade Classics is available now on the Switch eShop, with a physical release coming on November 22nd.
If you have any classic Capcom games or series you’d love to see revitalized, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section.
