Activision Brings Back Popular Character For Black Ops 6 Marketing, And He Pretends To Be The Pope

Activision Revs Up Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Marketing Campaign

With just a few more weeks to go before Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches on October 25, Activision’s marketing machine is ramping up. A new campaign began today, September 29, bringing back the character The Replacer, played by Peter Stormare. For anyone just catching up, the conceit of the ads is that The Replacer is the person sent in to replace the person who took a day off their job to play Call of Duty instead.

Stormare’s The Replacer debuted in 2013 and has been a mainstay for Activision’s Black Ops marketing campaigns over the years. The first in a series of commercials for Black Ops 6 featuring The Replacer went live today during Sunday’s NFL game lineup.

When asked about the upcoming campaign, Activision revealed that almost 30 videos will be rolled out leading up to the game’s release. Teasing that “some notable names” will be replaced during this latest ad campaign, Activision keeps fans on the edge of their seats with anticipation.

The new commercial showcases The Replacer stepping in for a variety of roles including a firefighter rescuing a cat, a rideshare driver, and even a father during family dinner. The absurdity doesn’t stop there, as even the Pope gets replaced for a day by The Replacer, suggesting that everyone enjoys a little Call of Duty.

Black Ops 6 is set to launch on October 25, with a surprising change in availability. Unlike previous releases, there is no early access to the campaign this time around. In a bold move, Black Ops 6 will also be available on Game Pass at launch, though limited to the highest tiers of the service.
