Review – Throne and Liberty (PC)

A Unique MMORPG Experience

As a fan of RPGs and MMORPGs, I was excited to dive into the early access of Throne and Liberty after watching some gameplay footage. With years of experience playing World of Warcraft and FFXIV Online, trying out a new MMORPG like Throne and Liberty was a refreshing change.

Developed by NCSoft and published by Amazon Games, Throne and Liberty is set in the world of Solisium. Your mission is to search for fragments of the Star of Sylaveth, harness its power to defeat the evil Kazar the Wraith of Conquest, and save Solisium from destruction. While the storyline may follow the “chosen one” trope, it offers a familiar yet enjoyable fantasy experience for players looking for something different.

Character Creation and Customization

One of the highlights of Throne and Liberty is the extensive character creation options. Players can spend hours crafting their perfect avatar, choosing from a variety of male and female options and fine-tuning every aspect of their appearance. The game even allows you to upload a photo for the AI to create a character model based on your likeness, though the results may vary.

Gameplay and Questing

Throne and Liberty eases players into the game with a series of introductory quests that familiarize them with the gameplay mechanics. The instanced battles with NPCs allow players to practice combat, experiment with weapons and skills, and understand the travel system within the game.

Once past the tutorial phase, players enter the open world of Solisium where they can take on various quests related to skill upgrades, crafting, and rewards. The game does a commendable job of explaining its complex systems, making it accessible to both new and experienced MMORPG players.

Combat and Questing

The combat in Throne and Liberty is engaging, though it may feel slightly less polished compared to other MMORPGs like World of Warcraft. Without traditional classes, players can wield two weapons and seamlessly switch between them to unleash powerful dual-skill combinations. This unique combat system adds depth and strategy to the gameplay experience.

Questing in Throne and Liberty includes story-driven purple quests that progress the main narrative, as well as blue quests tied to specific locations on the map. These quests are well-designed and offer additional depth to the game world, encouraging players to explore and engage in diverse activities.

Exploration and Immersion

Throne and Liberty excels in creating a vast and immersive game world filled with exploration and community interaction. Players can roam freely and uncover hidden secrets, with various traversal mechanics like dashing as a Wolf or gliding through the sky as a bird. The emphasis on player-controlled traversal adds a unique element to the game’s exploration.

Cash Shop and Monetization

While Throne of Liberty features a cash shop, it maintains a balance between in-game purchases and player progression. Players can acquire skill and armor upgrades through in-game currency, but purchasing power directly from the shop is limited. The game offers a battle pass system that rewards players for completing tasks and challenges, ensuring a fair and engaging monetization model.

Throne and Liberty boasts beautiful 3D visuals, solid voice acting, enjoyable combat mechanics, and immersive sound design, creating an engaging MMORPG experience for players looking for a new adventure in the world of Solisium.
