Sonic games will run on last-gen systems for as long as possible so “many people” can play

Sonic Team Prioritizes Last-Gen Systems for Sonic Games

Sonic Team is committed to ensuring that its games are accessible on last-gen systems for as long as possible, according to producer Takashi Iizuka. In an interview with IGN, Iizuka expressed his desire for “as many people as possible to play” Sonic games, despite the technological advancements in newer systems that allow for a more dynamic Sonic experience.

Reflecting on the current market landscape, Iizuka acknowledged the presence of high-end machines and consoles. He mentioned, “Coming out with those consoles, we feel that we can make newer Sonic games that can express the speed of Sonic and with much better gaming UI as well.” However, he emphasized the importance of supporting lower-spec consoles to ensure that a wider audience can continue to enjoy Sonic games.

While the recently unveiled PS5 Pro may be perceived as expensive by some players, Iizuka suggested that considering the quality it offers, the price is justified. He highlighted the appeal of the PS5 Pro for high-end game users.

Sega also announced the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack DLC for Sonic x Shadow Generations, coinciding with the release of the film featuring Keanu Reeves as the voice of Shadow. The DLC will be inspired by scenes from the movie and is set to launch on 12th December.
