GOTY Season is Approaching!
We’re getting closer to Game of the Year season, so let’s take a moment to reflect on the best games of September in this month’s edition of eShop Selects.
Yes, we know a new Zelda game was released last month, but what about all those eShop exclusives? September was another busy month for the digital storefront. As usual, our staff and contributors have voted for their top three eShop games from the list of games we’ve reviewed. Here are the top three, with many other great ones included as well.
Previously, in August, our Readers’ Choice accolade went to an eShop game called Peglin, which dropped during the Nintendo Direct double-bill. Another standout, Pizza Tower, topped the votes, even though we barely got to squeeze in a review. A Peggle-inspired roguelike seems like the perfect fit for the upcoming colder months.
Now, let’s dive into the games featured in September…
Honourable Mentions
All the games in September’s vote scored at least an 8/10 from us, making it a stellar month. However, there are a couple of exceptions. Ace Attorney is considered eligible because it only received a physical release in North America and Japan, while Marvel vs. Capcom is also eligible as its physical release is scheduled for later this year.
Bloomtown: A Different Story
We were eagerly anticipating Bloomtown: A Different Story, and this turn-based, slice-of-life RPG did not disappoint. Drawing inspiration from games like Persona, Pokémon, and classic RPGs, Bloomtown places a unique twist on the genre by setting it in the ’60s era. With excellent sidequests, storylines, gameplay mechanics, all wrapped in charming pixel art, we gave it a well-deserved 8/10 in our review.
Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines
A surprise sequel in 2024, Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines exceeded expectations with its fantastic gameplay. Introducing Luna, a new addition to the canine crew, brought fresh gameplay elements, making it a significant improvement from its predecessor. It’s no wonder it earned a 9/10; the title speaks for itself with its canine charm.
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics
As mentioned earlier, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is slated for a physical version release. The collection featuring an array of stellar games, modern consoles, stellar multiplayer, and rollback netcode, garnered a well-deserved 9/10 rating from us. It’s a must-have for fighting game enthusiasts.

eShop Selects Reader’s Choice Vote (September 2024)
Once again, we invite you to share your favorite Switch games from the eShop in September. Vote for your top picks in the poll below, including our staff’s favorites.
How we decide our eShop Selects top three: Each month, the Nintendo Life staff votes on their preferred titles from the list of digital-only Nintendo Switch eShop games released during that month, based on review scores. Staff members select their top three choices, with the game receiving the most points claiming the top spot for that month.
