Sega and Universal Announce New Shinobi Movie
Sega has found success with movie adaptations and is now set to explore its Shinobi franchise on the big screen.
Directed by Sam Hargrave, this new Universal movie will bring to life the side-scrolling hack-and-slash game that originally hit arcades in 1987 with a screenplay adaptation by Ken Kobayashi (Sunny, Move On).
Since the debut of Joe Musashi’s first game, the Shinobi franchise has grown to include sequels, spin-offs, and has sold over five million copies worldwide. Sega is also working on a new game as part of its effort to revive classic titles, with leaked footage surfacing earlier this year.
Universal, known for recent movie adaptations like Super Mario Bros. and the Five Nights at Freddy’s series, is expanding its portfolio with the addition of Shinobi. In addition to Shinobi and the upcoming Sonic 3 movie premiering this December, fans can also look forward to a Streets of Rage movie in development.
