Review – Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus – (Xbox Series X)

Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus

Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus, a collaboration between Too Kyo Games and Spike Chunsoft, brings a fresh take on the detective genre to PS5 and Xbox. This upgraded version of the 2023 Switch title now boasts 4k resolution and includes all the Switch DLC, offering players a new mystery-solving experience.

Set in the vibrant Kanai Ward, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus deviates from the typical detective motif, immersing players in a world of fantasy and mystery. Despite not being familiar with the Danganronpa series, the promise of solving intriguing mysteries was enough to captivate my interest.

Combining elements of a fantasy adventure with mystery, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus offers an engaging gameplay experience. Players step into the shoes of Yuma Kokohead, a detective with amnesia who made a pact with a death god named Shinigami. The dynamic duo’s interaction, reminiscent of certain anime protagonists, adds depth to the narrative and keeps players invested in the story.

Pacing and Gameplay

Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus introduces Mystery Labyrinths, challenging dungeons within a pocket dimension that add depth to the investigations. Players must gather “solution keys” in the real world to unlock the truth in these labyrinths, leading to intense reasoning death matches with culprits.

The game’s pace can feel slow, especially with a lengthy tutorial case that precedes the main storyline. However, the intricacies of the investigations, coupled with engaging mini games in the Mystery Labyrinths, offer a mix of entertainment and challenge.

Characters and Storyline

Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus features a colorful cast of characters, each with their own unique abilities and quirks. From Yuma Kokohead’s mysterious past to the antics of the World Detective Organisation members, the storyline unfolds in unexpected ways, keeping players engaged throughout.

While the gameplay may feel linear at times, the captivating narrative and engaging Mystery Labyrinths provide a rich experience for fans of the genre. Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus offers a blend of mystery, fantasy, and quirky humor that sets it apart from traditional detective games.
