Mario & Luigi: Brothership revives the RPG franchise for Switch

The New Mario & Luigi: Brothership Game

The latest Mario & Luigi game, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, marks the return of this beloved action role-playing sub-franchise from Nintendo after nearly a decade. This new installment brings back the colorful and story-driven gameplay that fans have come to love from the Mario Bros. series, along with influences from other Nintendo classics like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Spirit Tracks.

Return to Concordia

In this new adventure, Mario and Luigi embark on a mission to reconnect the fractured world of Concordia by linking its various islands. Their journey takes them across the seas of Concordia on Shipshape Island, where they must solve the problems of the island’s inhabitants by connecting them to the mystical Uni-Tree of Concordia. As they progress, they gather new crewmates, vendors, and allies to join them on Shipshape Island, creating a hub similar to Mother Base in the Metal Gear Solid games.

Hands-On Impressions

Recently, Nintendo hosted a hands-on demo of Mario & Luigi: Brothership in New York, allowing players a preview of the game ahead of its upcoming release on the Switch. The demo showcased familiar gameplay mechanics with new tactical options to keep the experience fresh. Brothership introduces Luigi Logic, a new mechanic that sees Luigi taking on solo tasks to solve puzzles and interact with the environment, adding new dimensions to the gameplay.

Embark on a New Adventure

The game features turn-based battles that require strategic thinking and precise timing to defeat enemies. Mario and Luigi have a range of moves and team-up attacks at their disposal, along with the introduction of Battle Plugs that offer new offensive and defensive abilities. Players can customize their gameplay experience by crafting Battle Plugs using Sprite Bulbs, unlocking new powers and abilities to enhance their combat skills.
