Concord Devs Updating Game Files, Leading to F2P Speculations

Speculations Surrounding Concord’s Return as a F2P Title

Sony has recently been making updates to the game files of Concord on Steam’s back-end, sparking rumors that the game may be reemerging as a free-to-play (F2P) title. While this may seem like a logical step to take, there are doubts among analysts and industry experts about whether this shift will be enough to rescue the struggling multiplayer shooter.

Sony’s Limited Options for Concord’s Future

Recent snapshots of Concord’s Steam database, shared on Reddit from SteamDB, indicate ongoing activity as of October 8. Although the changelog remains unclear, many gamers are interpreting these updates as a sign that Firewalk Studios is preparing for an F2P launch.

After reportedly investing substantial sums into Concord, Sony finds itself in a challenging position with limited avenues to rescue the game, if that is even feasible at this stage. It may not be prudent to allocate additional resources to overhaul a project that has faced significant rejection from players, with even the open beta experiencing dismal participation numbers.

While I am not an industry expert, the transformation of Concord into a F2P game appears to be the most promising option left for Sony. The timeline for this transition, however, remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, Firewalk, the developers behind Concord, are purportedly preparing for the fallout following the release of what some have labeled as one of the most significant disappointments in video game history.
