Baldur’s Gate 3 Director Criticizes Scalpers for Exploiting Collector’s Editions
Michael Douse, the director of publishing for Baldur’s Gate 3, expressed disappointment towards scalpers for taking advantage of the game’s collector’s editions, making genuine fans “sad”. Despite the initial price of £217 (€260) for the physical PC and PS5 collector’s editions, scalpers have swiftly acquired these limited items and are now reselling them for exorbitant amounts on auction sites.
Sharing an image of a collector’s edition being resold for £2.9K (€3.4K), Douse emphasized that these special editions were intended to bring joy to fans and not to be used as commodities for profiteering. He took to X/Twitter to express his disdain for scalpers, stating, “If you’re buying it to trade, all you’re doing is making someone sad.”
His comments sparked a conversation among fans, with many expressing their frustration towards the situation. One commenter lamented, “That someone is me.”
Just last month, news surfaced that Baldur’s Gate 3 was inching closer to incorporating the classic real-time with pause combat characteristic of the series, thanks to the efforts of a dedicated modder. Despite this, the issue of scalping collector’s editions remains a point of contention within the community.
