NYT Connections Today (Game #491) – The Answers
Without further ado, here are the answers to today’s Connections, game #491:
- YELLOW: RUMMAGE COMB, DIG, ROOT, SIFT
- GREEN: SOUNDS OF THUNDER CLAP, PEAL, ROLL, RUMBLE
- BLUE: WAYS TO WEAR YOUR HAIR UP BRAID, BUN, PONY, TWIST
- PURPLE: THINGS THAT CAN HAVE LEAVES BOOK, SALAD, TABLE, TREE
- My rating: Easy
- My score: Perfect
I must admit that I struggled with today’s purple group – the connection between BOOK, SALAD, TABLE, and TREE as “THINGS THAT CAN HAVE LEAVES” eluded me for a while. I eventually solved it by trial and error, but it’s a reminder of the challenge in Connections. It’s possible to complete the game with just three out of four groups, which can be a bit unsatisfying. Perhaps a feature where an AI assists in verifying answers could improve the experience.
Aside from that, today’s game was relatively straightforward but still enjoyable. How did you fare? Share your results with me via email!

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is a popular word game series developed by the New York Times. Players must find groups of four items that share a common theme, with varying levels of difficulty (green, yellow, blue, and purple).
Unlike other word games, you don’t necessarily need to solve the final group, as process of elimination can help. Plus, you’re allowed up to four mistakes, providing some room for error.
While engaging, Connections can be tricky with wordplay and clever tricks to keep you on your toes. The game is available for free on the NYT Games website for both desktop and mobile.
