Image from PGL Dota 2
The second season of Wallachia was a blast through and through. Despite technically being on a patch similar to TI, the diversity of strategies and hero picks was considerably higher. Let’s take a quick look back at this historical tournament and highlight some of the most exciting facts.
South America’s First LAN Victory
Perhaps the most exciting part of the tournament was the first ever LAN victory for South America. The region has been steadily getting more competitive in Dota, and it culminated in one of the most satisfying performances this year.
Notable Absences and Surprising Performances
Notable teams like Team Liquid, Team Spirit, Gaimin Gladiators, and Xtreme Gaming didn’t participate in the tournament. However, Heroic’s victory over Team Falcons in a best-of-five shouldn’t take away from their accomplishment. Three SA teams made it into the top 8, with Beastcoast coming close to the top 4 as well.
The Rise of ɹǝʞɹɐd⚔️
ɹǝʞɹɐd⚔️ was the tournament MVP, showcasing incredible skill and redefining the carry’s role in the meta. His performance was reminiscent of days past and has us eager to see more from him and Heroic in future tournaments.
Diverse Meta and Strategic Play
Wallachia delivered in terms of meta diversity. While there were still heroes ignored, team preferences played a significant role in determining viability. Offlaners were able to shine in their own right, leading to more dynamic games and strategic gambits.
Looking Forward
PGL Wallachia Season 2 marked an exciting start to the new competitive season. With new faces rising to the top, we are eager to see what comes next, hopefully on a new, economy-redefining patch.
