Exciting News for Dave the Diver Fans!
It’s been almost two years since Dave the Diver first made a splash in the gaming world with his unique underwater exploration and sushi restaurant management skills. But Mintrocket, the developer behind the game, is not done yet. The studio has confirmed that a story expansion is in the works, along with potential spin-off games for each of Dave’s friends.
Jaeho Hwang, the creator and director of Dave the Diver, shared this exciting news with VGC during Singapore’s recent Gamescom Asia. “I want to expand the Dave the Diver IP itself,” he explained. “I think that’s every director’s dream, since we have a relatable character.” Hwang, who also serves as Mintrocket’s CEO, mentioned that while the base game did not delve deeply into the personal stories of Dave and his friends, the studio is planning to fill in some of those blanks with the upcoming expansion.
According to Hwang, the story DLC that Mintrocket is currently working on will shed more light on the characters’ backgrounds. Additionally, he revealed plans to create separate games focusing on each character to explore how they met and what they did before arriving at the Blue Hole. Hwang highlighted the opportunity to venture into new genres within the Dave the Diver universe through these spin-offs and teased the possibility of exploring different stages in Dave’s life before he became a diver.

To date, Dave the Diver has sold over 4 million copies since its launch last year and has received three post-launch DLCs. These include the Digital Extra expansion featuring various cosmetics, a digital art book, and soundtrack, as well as collaborations with Dredge and Godzilla. Hwang did not provide a timeline for when the story DLC will be completed, but fans can look forward to a revamped gaming experience with the new content.
“Wholesome, harmonious, and completely unwilling to settle,” as Eurogamer described Dave the Diver in our five-star review, “this is one of the most generous games in years.”
